Shinedown's Eric Bass releases debut 'Mind Control' and announces new solo record

Well here's an exciting announcement for both music lovers and fans of Shinedown alike! Eric Bass, widely recognized as the bassist and producer for Jacksonville's rock powerhouse Shinedown, has officially debuted a first tease for his forthcoming debut solo album, I Had A Name. The record is slated to drop on February 21st of next year.

Hailing originally from South Carolina, Bass has carved out a remarkable legacy in the music industry. Alongside his bandmates in Shinedown, he has helped propel the group to a record-breaking achievement: the most No. 1 singles on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart. This new project earmarks an exciting evolution in his career, and now he's all set to showcase his talent and creativity beyond the band’s celebrated discography.

Mind Control is a powerful and provocative track that delves deep into the darker recesses of human emotion. Overflowing with passion, raw emotion, and a palpable contempt for a world riddled with flaws, this track is an unflinching exploration of the shadows that surround us in today’s age.

Bass has masterfully crafted a concept album that envisions a dystopian society - a bleak, haunting landscape where guilt, remorse, and the weight of personal choices take centre stage. With a narrative as gripping as it is introspective, Bass invites listeners to embark on an intense personal journey, navigating themes of mental health, despair, anger, and reflection. The record is all self-produced, written and recorded by himself, showcasing his testament as a multifaceted musician whose talent knows no boundaries.

Eric says: “Mind Control’ is part of a larger story than I’m telling on this record and in the graphic novel that goes along with it. We’re following this character Devaren as he’s talking about his disdain for the population and how he can’t stand them, but at the end of the song he has this reflective moment where he actually regrets everything he’s been doing. The interesting thing about the characters in this story is that they represent a different part of my neurodivergence and mental health journey. In ‘Mind Control’ Devaren represents the depression that has crept into my life over the years that I didn’t see coming. I just had to personify that in a character so in ‘Mind Control’ it has taken over, but ultimately in our story it will be defeated.”
