We had Mothica’s ‘Curiosity Killed the Moth’ on repeat after release, now she gives us another taste of her third album which is due for release this August 23rd!
Toxins sees Mothica battling the demons we all seem to face sometimes. In an utterly personal and downright emotive move, the Oklahoma singer doesn’t shy away from darkness, topics we often find ourselves uncomfortable speaking of - death and depression. But in the eclectic world of music, Mothica stands out with her latest track, a mesmerising blend of unexpected glittery pop sensibilities and broody basslines. The track, infused with haunting instrumentals and soft, honey-kissed vocals, creates a perfectly poisonous and highly addictive listening experience. It's an emotional rollercoaster that invites listeners to confront their darkest thoughts while embracing the rhythm and dance.
She says: “Toxins is the first song that made the record, since I originally wrote it for a Halloween release in 2022. I loved the image of a spider singing to its freshly caught prey. It took on a new meaning with the grim reaper as this stalker or dark shadow that followed me around, even when I made strides to get better like going to therapy or getting sober. The analogue synths David Burris put in the chorus definitely inspired the sound of the record, taking influence from the darkwave genre.”
